Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine whether the use of the mother tongue has an influence on the learning achievement of Grade 3 students at Central Basic Education 3rd Cycle Pérola of Atauro. The population of this study consisted of 59 students. The results of the hypothesis test revealed that the calculated F-value (236.47) was greater than the critical F-value (3.168). Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the mother tongue has a significant influence on the learning achievement of students. Furthermore, the coefficient of determination indicated that 81.40% of the variation in students’ learning achievement was explained by the use of the mother tongue, while the remaining 18.60% was influenced by other factors not examined in this study.
